Application process
For full details on how to apply, visit: uofteng.ca/grad-apply.
- As an international student, your application process includes an English Language Proficiency requirement.
- International student applications have a specific set of deadlines set by your department of study.
Study permits
New measures have been implemented for international students admitted to post-secondary institutions in Canada who are applying for study permits. It is important to note that these measures do not extend to graduate students (master’s and PhD programs). Graduate students are required to adhere to the established study permit application procedures, without the need for the new Attestation Letter mandated for undergraduate students.
As of February 15, 2024, graduates of master’s degree programs will be eligible to apply for a three-year post-graduation work permit. Open work permits will also remain available to spouses of international students in master’s and doctoral programs. For updates, please refer to the School of Graduate Studies International Portal.
More information on applying for your study permit can be found via the Centre for International Experience.
English Language Proficiency (ELP)
Depending on where you attended school for your undergraduate studies, you may need to meet U of T’s English Facility requirements.

Use the International Credentials Equivalencies tool to see which international credentials are required for master’s and doctoral admissions at U of T. If your credential is not listed, please contact the department you are applying to.
