MEng emphases FAQs
I am interested in one or more of the MEng emphases. Can I apply directly to an emphasis as a prospective student?
You cannot apply to an emphasis directly as a prospective student. Emphases are specializations that admitted MEng students can pursue in addition to their MEng degree. The first step is to apply to one of the MEng programs that the emphasis is available for. Once you have been admitted to the MEng program, you are then eligible to work towards completing coursework for the emphasis you are interested in.
How do I enrol in the emphasis?
You do not need to enrol in any emphases. Simply review the emphases requirements and complete the coursework required during your MEng degree. Should you need advising on a particular emphasis, each emphasis webpage should have a contact person to reach out to.
How many emphases can I complete?
MEng students may not complete more than two emphases.
Are there limitations to how many courses I can overlap to count towards two emphases?
Yes. You can only use a maximum of one course to count towards two emphases.
How do I request completion of my emphasis?
Near the end of each academic term (Fall, Winter, Summer), your graduate unit will share an email requesting that graduating MEng students notify them if they met the degree requirements to graduate and to fill out a form requesting a review of their emphasis.
Does the emphasis show on my diploma when I graduate?
Only Master of Engineering will show on your diploma, however, completed emphases will be notated on your transcript.
