PANELISTS
1. JJ Mifsud – Applied AI Architect, Klick Health
JJ Mifsud is an Applied AI Architect at Klick Health. He focuses on the practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) innovations that drive forward the boundaries of healthcare marketing and patient engagement. With over a decade of experience in healthcare-focused technology, JJ has become a key figure in integrating AI technologies into Klick’s client solutions.
JJ began his career as a web developer, quickly distinguishing himself as a technical leader through his work. His passion and future vision shifted him into a leadership role for the Data Science teams at Klick Health. When Generative AI exploded in early 2023, JJ was poised to learn, adapt, integrate, and apply the technology in various client engagements. JJ’s work has focused on practical applications of AI in healthcare, including: Simulation of Healthcare Provider (HCP) engagements, Dynamic Training Modules for Sales Representatives, Regulatory Aware Marketing Message Generation. JJ continues to explore new frontiers in Generative AI. He is experimenting and pushing the boundaries of both LLMs and other generative models. His vision is to set standards on the safe and responsible deployment of AI technologies in healthcare. He aims to minimize the risk to both patients and healthcare providers.
2. Sharon O’Sullivan – Global Head, Technology Research & Innovation – BMO Financial Group
Sharon O’Sullivan is currently the head of technology research and innovation for BMO Financial Group. Ms. O’Sullivan leads the bank’s digital innovation strategy. She collaborates with partners internally and externally to understand, experiment, and adopt disruptive technologies like Ai, blockchain and quantum computing for growth. Previously, Sharon led the Information Technology function, overseeing the risk & governance for BMO’s digital first domains (data, Ai, robotics, and digital security, etc.). Ms. O’Sullivan joined BMO in 2019, after leading technology transformation strategies CIBC, for over 19 years. At her last role with CIBC, she led predictive analytics & AI solutions, where she built an AI lab that developed next-generation credit granting & risk management, trading, and fraud prevention solutions.
Ms. O’Sullivan is active in technology communities. Currently, she advises the University of Waterloo’s AI Lab, University of Toronto’s Entrepreneurship Hatchery, and serves as mentor on various technology and science accelerators including the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL). Sharon is also an active mentor in tech startup community, and an investor in early-stage Ai start-up ventures. Ms. O’Sullivan holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Business with a concentration in Corporate Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, and a Global Executive MBA from SDA Bocconi School of Business in Milan. And holds certificates in Digital Business Strategy and Blockchain Technologies at MIT. In addition, she is a Certified Agile ScrumMaster, a Certified Professional Facilitator, and is bilingual in English and Mandarin.
3. Tara Murphy – Senior Manager, Deloitte Canada
Tara Murphy leads the Human Implications of AI practice at Deloitte Canada and co-authored Deloitte’s Global perspective on the Future of Work with Generative AI. She is passionate about the impact of Generative AI on human work and draws from experience in organization transformation across various sectors to help leaders design more adaptable organizations. Tara is an inclusive people leader who is passionate about teaching and supporting individuals to find happiness in their work and grow in their careers.
Her article on Generative AI and the Future of Work delves into the transformative impact of generative AI on human work, shedding light on the role of generative AI and its immense potential to redefine human work’s purpose. It is essential for business leaders, people managers, and AI enthusiasts keen on navigating the evolving future of work.
MODERATOR
Daniel Wigdor – Professor, Department of Computer Science – University of Toronto
Daniel Wigdor is an entrepreneur, investor, and professor in the field of computer science. He specializes in the invention of technologies which are tailored to enable people to live better/happier/more productive lives. His innovations have included novel sensing technologies, operating system architectures, AI systems, manufacturing methods, haptic feedback devices, and software systems, all based on his teams’ deep study of human capabilities and needs, employing methods from fields such as psychophysics, sociology, and anthropology. He has founded several companies which have combined to employ hundreds of people across the US and Canada, raising over $100M in revenue and funding. In 2020, he sold Chatham Labs to Facebook, and became the founding director of Meta’s Reality Labs in Toronto. Daniel’s technologies may be found in more than a billion devices worldwide. He holds over 50 patents, has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, has written books which have been translated into multiple languages and used as standard texts around the world, and has testified as an expert witness in courts in the US and UK, helping to resolve disputes regarding more than $50B.
Daniel has won many awards for his research, including the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation’s Research Fellowship, the Ontario Early Researcher Award, and more than a dozen ‘best paper’ awards at top venues in computer science. He is currently a professor and is the associate chair for industrial partnerships at the University of Toronto. He has previously held positions at Cornell, the University of Washington, Harvard University, Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, Microsoft Research, and Reality Labs Research.
