In this session with engineering alumni, you will learn strategies and the decision-making process that alumni engage in when going from the bench to beyond! You will have the opportunity to listen to each alumni’s key career stories and the factors that went into them going beyond the bench, followed by an opportunity to mingle in small breakout rooms.

Karyn Ho, Science Communications Lead, Vital Bio
Dr. Karyn Ho is the Science Communications Lead at Vital Biosciences, where she works to shape how their innovations in point-of-care diagnostics are presented to the world. She is an engineer and medical illustrator, and she used her unique skill set to forge a career that sits at the interface between science, engineering, medicine, communication, and art. By translating knowledge into narratives, her mission is to captivate people, spark their curiosity, and motivate them to share what they learned.
Leo Zhu, Product Manager: AI/ML Recommendations & Platform, Bazaarvoice
Product Manager with 3 YOE currently at the intersection of AI/ML and Behavioral Psychology, working on Recommendations and the API/SDK/Platform that delivers them. Previously worked on a cloud/mobile app for automating workflows, and kicked off a Pre-Medical Tutoring Platform. Holds a Masters in building Genome-Integrated Mathematical Models for Predicting Drug Metabolism, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and am a Project Management Professional. Originally studied Chemical Engineering with a Pre-Med focus, but realized that helping 400+ students get into medical school was more impactful than practicing medicine. Now I prepare US/Canadian newcomers for the business/tech job market. Current hobbies include building a music collective and training for a marathon!
Oluwatobi Edun, PMP®, SMC®, EIT, Digital Risk Consultant, Deloitte
Oluwatobi Edun is a UofT M.Eng and BASc Chemical Engineering graduate, that consults in Deloitte’s Risk Advisory practice. He supports a cross-functional team in translating financial service clients’ requirements into digital solutions and assessing technology transformation program risks.
Oluwatobi facilitated UofT Engineering’s International Virtual Engineering Student Teams (InVEST) initiative to empower internationally remote student teams with power skills to become effective collaborators in a global-virtual world. He championed community and engineering innovation as a student: President of the Nigerian Students’ Association; Teaching Assistant of engineering courses; New College Residence Assistant; and Co-Chair of the 2017 Undergraduate Engineering Research Day conference.
Yasaman Delaviz, Educational/Curricular Development Specialist, York University
Dr. Yasaman Delaviz is an educational/curricular development specialist in the Faculty of Health at York University. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto, where her research focused on developing antimicrobial resins for use in dental materials. During her doctoral training, Yasaman developed a passion for teaching and an interest in curriculum design. This led her to teach numerous undergraduate-level courses at the University of Toronto and to develop and teach a material science course at OCAD University from 2014-2022. Prior to joining York University in 2019, Yasaman worked as a curriculum developer at Seneca Polytechnic.
