TA Training Options

All new TAs are entitled to 4-hours of paid TA training from their hiring department. This training is mandatory and is required by the collective agreement. Below is information on how new TAs can fulfil the 4-hour paid training.

Note: If you are hired by a non-Engineering department as a TA, please check your TA contract or speak to your hiring unit on how to complete your first-time TA Training.

First-Time Training Options

Option 1: Training Options from TATP (4-hours)

TATP Training | worth 4 hours of paid training (completely Asynchronous)

1-hour asynchronous online modules: All online modules are available for self-enrolment in Quercus.

Mandatory: Complete the Policies & Procedures for Teaching Assistants at the University of Toronto (1-hour)

Complete 3 of the ten modules below (each module is 1-hour).

These modules focus on specific tutorial categories:

Each completed module produces a certificate of completion - please review instructions here on how you can submit these certificates for processing.

 


Option 2: Training Options from TATP Synchronous and Asynchronous Training (4-hours combined)

Both options 2A and 2B must be completed.

Option 2A: TATP Training | 2 hours of paid training (completely Asynchronous)

1-hour asynchronous online modules: All online modules are available for self-enrolment in Quercus.

Mandatory: Complete the Policies & Procedures for Teaching Assistants at the University of Toronto (1-hour)

Complete 1 of the ten modules below (each module is 1-hour).

Option 2B: TATP Training | 2 hours of paid training (Synchronous)

2 Hour Synchronous Training Sessions - Complete one of the 2-hour synchronous TA training sessions from TATP – registration is required.

TAs must register prior to attending one of the 2-hour synchronous online or in-person training sessions hosted by the TATP. In-person training sessions will take place in the Blackburn Room, on the 4th floor of Robarts Library (130 St. George Street). Online sessions will be hosted on Zoom. CUPE orientation is included in these 2-hour sessions.

  • Communicating with students
  • Effective student support
  • Working with your Course Supervisor
